On Thursday, February 1st, the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux held a Funeral Mass and burial for Bishop Dorsonville at the St. Joseph Co-Cathedral.
Prior to the Mass, Bishop Dorsonville’s remains were transferred from Landry’s Funeral home, there was a visitation in the Co-Cathedral. Archbishop Gregory Aymond presided over the Funeral Mass and Donald Cardinal Wuerl was the homilist. His Eminence said, “Your shepherd understood why Pope Francis urges church leaders to go out encounter, engage, walk with those who should be so much more closely united with Jesus.”
To begin his ministry in this local Church, Bishop Dorsonville was installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Houma. Bishop Dorsonville requested to be buried at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral which is dedicated to his patron. His last wishes are a sign of the beginning and end of his ministry in our diocese - his alpha and omega.
In the days leading up to Bishop Dorsonville’s Funeral Mass and burial, the Diocese partnered with Landry’s Funeral Home, Green Acres Nursery, and Rodrigue’s Electric to create burial space on the grounds of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. Diocesan leadership expressed gratitude for all involved in the organization and participation in the honorable and dignified celebration of Bishop Dorsonville’s life and legacy.
